Odyssey: controls & voyage guide

Explore six islands, face mythical bosses, and find your way home in an original browser adventure.

Begin your voyage

Choose Odyssey from the Games tab, then start a New Game or Continue your saved journey. The adventure travels through Ismarus, the Lotus-Eaters, the Cyclopes, Aeaea, the Strait, and Ithaca. Each island has rooms to explore, equipment to collect, and a boss to defeat. Artwork and audio are generated locally by the game.

On phones, landscape gives the game more room. The fullscreen button expands the game when your browser supports it. Touch controls appear on devices with a coarse pointer. The game also supports keyboard and standard gamepad controls.

Keyboard and touch controls

Move with WASD or arrow keys. Strike or fire the bow with J or Space; hold to repeat. Hold Shift to sprint, E to interact, I or Tab for equipment, and Escape to pause. Navigate menus with Tab or arrows, confirm with Enter or Space, and use Escape to go back.

On touch screens, use the virtual stick to move and the Strike, Run, Use, Gear, and Pause buttons. Standard gamepads use the left stick or D-pad to move, A to strike, B to sprint, X to interact, Y for equipment, and Start to pause. Audio starts after an interaction; music, sound effects, mute, and reduced motion are in Settings.

Exploration and combat

Speak with Athena at the landing, open the chest, and head through the eastern arch. Push the courtyard stone east onto the golden plate to open the mechanism, collect the key, and use it at the eastern arch. In the passage, find the brass lever and look for a cracked wall near the northeast corner. Strike the wall to uncover a secret.

Red zones telegraph boss attacks. Sprint clear and strike during a recovery window. Sprinting drains energy; empty energy must recover before you can run again. Shielded enemies need careful positioning, and the red Cicone raiders are vulnerable from their right side, opposite the shield. Nectar restores health and energy. Equip new weapons and armor through the inventory instead of leaving rewards unused.

Sailing and checkpoints

After defeating an island boss, collect the reward and return to the landing through the eastern arena arch. Board the ship at the southwest shore to continue. Sailing saves your destination, equipment, inventory, coins, completed islands, and settings in local browser storage.

Death returns you to the current island’s checkpoint. Enemies, puzzles, doors, and chests reset, while temporary finds and spending roll back. Completed islands and earlier checkpoint rewards remain. Quitting from Pause also uses that checkpoint when you Continue. New Game asks before replacing an existing save. Clearing this website’s browser data removes saved progress.
